Most
people come to Brazil either through São Paulo or through Rio de

the International airport ( São Paulo/Guarulhos -- GRU), where
you will go through immigration formalities. The airport is
connected to São Paulo by taxis and a shuttle service by buses.
If you visit Rio before and then come to
São Paulo, you may find it convenient to use the air shuttle
service connecting metropolitan airports from Rio ( Santos Dumont
Airport) and São Paulo ( Congonhas Airport).
-- MONEY
At
the airports and change offices ( in São Paulo you can
find them on Avenida Paulista, close to the workshop site). ATMs are
also available. Usually HSBC and " Banco do Brasil "
ATMs accept international cards.
At the present time (Feb '06), the brazilian Real is converted as follows:
1 US$ = 2.20 R$
1 Euro = 2.65 R$
1 GBP = 3.70 R$
100 JPY = 1.8 R$
but you may want to check at http://www.xe.com/ucc/ for updated informations.
-- TELEPHONE CALLS
To call home from the workshop site the easiest would be to use skype
from the computers of the Institute for Theoretical Physics. If
you are not skype-friendly or you have any difficulty in using it, you
can call from your hotel. There are also public
telephones on the streets . To use them you have to buy a telephone
card (cartão telefônico) at the newspaper stands. Not all
public telephones make international calls, however.
In case you need to contact home urgently, please talk to one of the organizers.
